There’s no brighter light in a small community in these dismal economic times than the light of a new business in a once dark and empty storefront.  A Soduskan for over 30 years, Havah Cindi Kuhn, is a licensed massage therapist who has had practices in Webster and Sodus for five years.  When the space on Greig Street in Sodus Point became available, Cindi decided it was the perfect time and place to consolidate.  A flurry of activity, hard work, and many hands transformed the former store space into what is now the perfect haven for relaxation.  From the moment you walk through the door, stress begins to melt away as you sink into a comfy leather chair in front of the fireplace in the waiting area.  Earth-tone walls and furnishings glow in the soft light and you can help yourself to a wonderful selection of herbal teas, cocoa, cookies, and chocolates.

The treatment room is indeed a “treat.” Candles glow and soft music plays as you lie down on the deeply padded, heated table.  Cindi’s gifted hands can provide you with therapeutic Swedish massage, using varying levels of pressure to soothe aches and pains and enhance the body’s own healing power.   She also provides deep tissue massage, hot stone therapy, infant massage, Shiatsu massage, and Reiki energy healing.  She employs essential oils, lotions, and hot lavender packs for additional soothing relaxation.

Cindi interviews each client and extensively reviews their health history.  “The business is very regulated, per New York State licensing requirements.  I need to make sure that each individual’s special requirements are taken into consideration,” she explained.  Her interest in people’s needs goes far beyond the clinical requirements, however.  “I have loved it (massage and healing) it all my life; that’s the way I was led,” she shared.  She lends a calming, comforting touch to people in hospice care, and also works in group homes with mentally handicapped individuals and adults with behavioral problems.  “I find that it’s really a soothing experience for them; they really seem to look forward to my visits and the massage calms them,” Cindi related.  Her caring spirit also extends out into the community and her church, Williamson Presbyterian, where she works as secretary to the minister and also serves on the Missions and Outreach Committee.

Cindi’s very pleased to be providing massage services in her new location, saying “I love living and working in a small town.  I love the people and I’m really happy with having my own place to work in.”  She emphasizes that the benefits of massage aren’t just physical – “It’s about the interrelationships between mind, body, and spirit.  The benefits stay with you long after you leave.”
